[Character Abilities:]

Vicki is a trained police officer. She has years of experience as a detective on the Toronto Metro Police Force as well as a few years of private investigation experience. Physically, she is in excellent condition, trained in the classical martial arts, marksmanship and police interrogation tactics.

But she is fully human and her eyesight is below that of the average person due to a degenerative eye condition. She requires glasses to see anything beyond vague shapes, has very poor night vision and is no longer allowed to operate a motor vehicle.

Vicki is both a passionate and a closed off person. She defends with the full force of her life, puts everything she has into her investigations and shares her lifeblood with her vampire lover. And yet, parts of her remain inaccessible to Henry and even her former lover and still friend Mike Celluci.

She is estranged from her mother and does not share the older woman’s ideals of settling down to marry and have children.

The circumstances of her childhood, father leaving and growing up in a less than perfect neighborhood, likely forged her will of iron, but also her compassion. She genuinely wants to help those who need it and is uncompromising in her morals to stop evil and the harm it causes.

Her emotions drive her at times. At one point, her anger, frustration and desperation push her weakened and injured body up several flights of stairs in order to stop a mummy from taking over the world for his dark god. But she is also quick to compartmentalize and shut away the emotions that she deems soft or inconsequential. Grief and sadness are not easy for Vicki to express and thus she doesn’t.

After the canon she is being drawn from, when her mother dies, Vicki completely shuts down and is unable to deal with the loss. Any strong incident that would force those emotions into the forefront would totally shut her down unless she could grasp anger or protectiveness to shield herself with.

She never stops. To Vicki, there is no mystical design. Every problem has a solution and every solution is something that a person can find if they look hard enough. And she doesn’t stop looking until the problem is solved. This is what made her such a great detective while still on the force. Off the force and in her personal life, however, Vicki can come across as single minded and at times obsessed. Not even sleep will interfere when she has a particular case that piques her curiosity.

Love is complicated. Henry and Mike are the two men in her life and are complete opposites. Vampire and human, other and familiar, mysterious and mundane. Though she is currently involved with Henry, there is still a spark with Mike.

Her degree is in History, completely irrelevant to police work, but it interested her in college, so she pursued that particular dgree. Her purse is large and filled with change, cheese poufs and so many random things that Mike’s new partner recognizes the contents as Vicki’s when she is booked falsely on the pedophile charge during the mummy attack.

[Character History:]

Vicki grew up with her mom and dad in an old Victorian house in the suburbs of Toronto until the day her dad left with no explanation. The house was sold and she and her mother moved into a two bedroom apartment in an older building in a different part of town. She grew estranged from her mother, who works as a secretary to the head of a small college, and decided to pursue a career in law enforcement.

As one of the only girls at the police academy, Vicki was a hard nosed, mouthy and brash recruit who quickly worked her way up to detective in the Toronto Metro Police Department. She and her partner, Detective Mike Celluci had a great relationship at work and outside. They cleared difficult and headline grabbing cases and were the golden team of the department.

At the height of their success, Vicki was diagnosed a degenerative optical condition called retinal pigmentosa. Slowly, the borders of her peripheral vision began to close in and her remaining sight began to dim. Her sight would never get better and would, in fact, continue to get worse until she was completely blind.

Unable to drive, unable to remain on active duty in the field, Vicki Nelson was left with two options, take a desk job that would take her away from the action, or quit the police force. Celluci urged her to take the desk job, something that soured their relationship and drove Vicki away from him.

With years of experience behind her, Vicki left the force and opened her own private investigation company. Business was slow and life was mundane until one night Vicki witnessed a murder at the subway station. She chased the killer into a dead end brick wall where he disappeared into thin air. Mike Celluci caught the case and Vicki saw him again for the first time in a long while.

Her investigation led her to Henry Fitzroy, vampire and bastard son of Henry VIII. Vicki is forced to trust Henry, to work with him and sometime during the investigation; she realizes she wants to trust him. So, when Henry confronts the demon's servant and is badly injured, Vicki calls upon her street kid snitch (Tony Foster) to feed the vampire (she had already done so herself and was unable to do so again so soon) and restore his health. Henry is saved and Vicki begins to relax into the idea of having this supernatural partner.

After the threat is neutralized, Vicki allows Henry into her personal and professional life. The vampire assists her in cases that would be outside the scope of Vicki’s ability due to the degenerating eyesight. They also progress beyond friends to lovers.

Soon after, some werewolf acquaintances from Henry’s past are being shot at and killed on their farm out in the countryside. Vicki agrees to do the detective work and Henry assists as the nighttime eyes and ears. Their relationship continues to grow, becoming more physical in both blood exchange and sex. Attempts are made on Vicki’s life and Detective Celluci shows up to assist in the investigation and, after the culprits are found and subsequently killed, assist in the cover-up.

Not long after, an ancient mummy is awoken and begins to steal the souls of the living in order to restore himself and bring to earth the ancient Egyptian god once worshipped and now forgotten. And Henry is in almost no condition to help, suffering from nightmares of the sun and not realizing that they are linked to the rise of the mummy.

As the most powerful and influential people of Toronto's government and police force begin to fall under the mummy's spell, Vicki finds is falsely imprisoned in a mental institute after being drugged and labeled a child molester. One of the other inmates is someone Vicki put away while a cop and is merciless in her torment of Vicki.

Celluci and Henry (along with some help from Tony) help to get Vicki out and take down the mummy and his God before the full realization of the world domination plans can be played out. The whole experience complicates the already odd relationship between the Celluci, Henry and Vicki, but this is where her background leaves off.
